And they lived happily ever after …
A workshop with Antonia Boll
Feminists have challenged this cheerful conclusion to many traditional fairytales with the sensible claim that no serious relationship is without its on-going struggles and drama. In this workshop we will explore some of the classic conflict situations thrown up by these stories in the light of Jung’s theory of the Inner Partnerships (animus/a) and the individual’s search for meaning at the inner and outer level. Aspects of the personality, be they monstrous or benign, and the individual’s struggle to reach maturity are reflected in the unfolding drama and movement towards resolution in these simple tales.
This workshop will give us the opportunity to share and explore some of these universal themes, in particular the inner marriage and the true significance of the happy ending, as they manifest in our favourite stories.
“……my soul is not asleep.
It is awake, wide awake.
It neither sleeps nor dreams, but watches, its clear eyes open,
Far-off things, and listens at the shores of the great silence.”
from Anoche cuando dormia by Antonio Machado, trans. Robert Bly in Times Alone
