Association of Psychotherapists: The Human Psyche in A Changing World Tariq Ali & Helen Morgan Any era poses challenges to those living through it. Scientific and technological development stimulates and accompanies social and political change. Our culture is both an expression of this climate and of our attempts to respond to it. This series of four events offers an exploration of the nature of the changes with which we are confronted. In looking at the outer world we hope to develop a greater understanding of the spirit of this particular age. What is it that we are living through? What is the relationship between external forces and the inner world of the individual and the collective? We will hear from four accomplished representatives of major disciplines: politics and economics, science and technology, religion and the arts. Each, from their particular vantage point, will discuss the character of contemporary life and the challenges it poses. To their presentations will be added a view from the world of psychotherapy. Four experienced Jungian analysts will provide a psychoanalytic and Jungian perspective on these aspects of a changing world. The series will attempt to address the relative inattention psychotherapy gives to the outer world. This may, at times, limit and undermine the therapeutic endeavour. It also means that potentially helpful analytic thinking is lost to broader debate within our society. We hope to provide the opportunity for an enriching dialogue between disciplines.
