The Jungian Society for Scholarly Studies VIIth Annual Conference

Making the Darkness Conscious:
A Jungian Exploration of Psyche, Soma and the Natural World in an Age of Crisis

7th - 10th August, 2008
Champlain College, Burlington, Vermont

Call For Papers

Filling the conscious mind with ideal conceptions is a characteristic feature of Western theosophy,
but not the confrontation with the shadow and the world of darkness. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious.
- C.G. Jung (1954) -

The Jungian Society for Scholarly Studies was founded in 2002 by a group of academics seeking opportunities for scholarly discourse on analytical psychology, focusing on the research and theories of C.G. Jung and those who have come after him. TJSSS organizes a yearly interdisciplinary academic conference through which members can present scholarly papers, organize roundtable discussions, and provide interactive workshops.

Continuing with the theme of transformation from Conference VI, TJSSS Conference 2008 will provide academics from across the disciplines, practitioners of analytical psychology, and others interested in the work of C.G. Jung and the post-Jungians an opportunity to explore the impact of the unexamined shadow in the world today. The conference theme is inclusive and serves as an umbrella for issues related, but not limited to, our human condition, the relationship between individual and collective, and our human embedded-ness in the natural world.

Proposals in the form of abstracts of 500 words or less are invited for papers, workshops and/or panel presentations related to the conference theme. We welcome submissions from students of Jungian Studies.

Proposals should be submitted by November 30th 2007 to: Dr. Marie-Madeleine Stey, TJSSS Conference Coordinator, Capital University, Dept. of Modern Languages, 1 College and Main, Columbus, OH 43209-2394, All submissions must include your C.V., full name and full contact information of mailing address, email address, and telephone numbers (if in the U.S. & Canada). Conference information will be posted in the near future at: www.theJungiansociety.org
